Don’t start a fire, call an expert instead

Have you seen the Washington Post Headline that has gone viral? Maryland homeowner uses smoke to get rid of snakes but burns down house – The Washington Post.

Who would do that? Aren’t there experts who specialize in all kinds of pests that could have been brought in?

We would never do that in the business world. Right? Try and solve our own problems when there are experts available to help us. How many times in companies do we put policies, procedures, systems, and plans in place that we think make sense only to find our employees, who may not burn the business down, certainly raise their opposition in a way that may or may not be productive.

The problem with creating policies, procedures, systems, and plans that aren’t done with experts, well they can become problematic, and sometimes problems can be hard to fix after the fact.

Please don’t start a fire when you can call an expert.
